Goodall discovers the 'humanity' of the chimps. A list of other chimps that allowed Goodall to grace their presence includes the following: Mike, Goliath, Leakey, Worzle, Goblin, and McGregor. In addition, in the book, Goodall also records her relationship with David Graybeard, the first chimp Goodall approached, by permission. Goodall's work is rife with stories of chimp life, which include references to Flo, who is the object of interest for every male chimp. Throughout her research activities, she learned how to earn the chimps' trust and observe their habits and behaviors. Goodall chronicles her relationships with the chimps. Written in 1971, Jane Goodall's work 'In the Shadow of Man' represents a detailed account of Goodall's research activities at the Gombe Stream Reserve in Africa.
